New VoIP Patent

July 1, 2005

In a recent decision by the Federal Communications Commission, it has been mandated that every VoIP provider offer some type of e-911 capability. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service provider must supply enhanced 911 (E911) emergency calling capabilities to their customers.

The FCC is scrambling to find a solution to this crucial problem. The Commission stated its intention to adopt an advanced E911 solution that includes a method for determining the customer's location without the customer having to self report this information.

A new product has been developed and recently patented. This new product will solve the problem of not being able to locate the exact position of a VoIP customer calling 911. The VoIP market may have solved the biggest problem in providing VoIP 911 services. This problem centers on the user that uses a "virtual number," or changes their location often. The fact that you can bring your number with you anywhere you go is one of the main attractions to a VoIP line. This is also one of the main downfalls. Customers who move constantly make it extremely difficult to pinpoint their exact location for an emergency dispatch. This new patent is an IP enabled device having Global Positioning System (GPS) capability, which will make it easier to find where the call is coming from. This new technology will greatly reduce the time it takes for a dispatcher to located the person in need.<

VoIP providers that fail to meet the FCC's requirements within 120 days, "won't be allowed to provide service in the United States." FCC Chairman Kevin J. Martin stated that a VoIP 911 solution was "a matter of life and death." This group has the most cost effective, most precise and the only patented VoIP 911 solution. This is a major break through for VoIP customers, as well as providers.
